Excellent photos Daniel, I love seeing them. Your plane must be really sharp. There's something rewarding about seeing those wispy-thin continuous shavings, isn't there.

thanks for the encouragement guys - this is a great group.

I have a lot to learn about sharpening/using wood planes, but from my experience sharpening/honing straight razors I learned about lapping film. Its the stuff they use to polish the ends of fiberoptic cable for joining.

After sharpening on an extra fine diamond plate, I run through a progression of 12, 9, 5, 3, 1 micron lapping film - for wood tools stopping at 5 micron is plenty fine. Puts a mean edge on your steel.

Using one of my Christmas presents to thin the back braces a little before gluing them on.

Dave, thats the Veritas low angle version. Really had to watch for tear-out with that low angle blade, but absolutely love the precision adjustments. I'm thinking about getting a 38 or 50 degree blade for this plane, for use in these occasions.

I've been using lapping film to sharpen my plane irons and chisels - changes everything.

Your work on the guitar looks really good. I like the veritas low angle block planes. I did buy different angles but I have never changed out the twenty five degree. If it feels like you might get tear out on the spruce braces just go the other way.
