Come on Dave, you know not all of Arizona is like that. For those of you who want to move here... yes it's really nasty.
My wife Carol and I went "jeeping" Monday( although we use a pick-up truck} and within 20 minutes after arriving in the forest we saw 20 Mule deer, including two 4 point bucks. Wonderful country and beautiful animals. Of course we are at 5200 ft. here in Prescott.

Some parts of Az are as beautiful as anywhere. One of my favorite bloggers, The Maverick Philosopher, lives close to the Superstition mountain range and brags on it all the time, with great pictures as well. He refers to anyone who will not go hiking in 115 degree heat as a 'candy ass'. :-)

It's a different kind of beauty than Northwest people are used to, that's all.

Someday Woody I'm gonna drive out there to Prescott and say hi. And look at deer!

AHHhhh yes! I lived in Bullhead City just north of LHC for 43 years....watched 'em build the bridge...like watching paint dry...Lake Mohave is not much different than Havasu in the "Watching the local Wild life" department (The two legged type).. lot's of history there too...some great places to go if you know where...GOLD! I miss that the most...(Yes it's still there) in a way I miss it all now being in Colorado, but I really don't miss the heat.. I have seen it 132 there in the shade...(Pic somewhere) 2004 was not a nice year... jeeping in dry washes at the wrong time of the year, depends on how fast your jeep can outrun waist deep water and debris...but fun it can be...PEOPLE....too many people now...when I went there...there were only 1700 people between Davis Dam and the south end of Lake Havasu...today, don't know but more than 100 times that many would not be a bad guess...And probably not 3-4 of 'em natives of Arizona.
I knew an original Arizona Ranger in 1965 was 95 years old then, and his route/district was from Fort Mohave to Yuma Prison, to Prescott to Kingman and back to the old fort. Now and then a short cut from Kingman to what would be the south end of Lake Havasu, which included a stretch of "Jumping Cactus" about 3 miles wide. He was delivering a prisoner to Yuma...the guys hands were cuffed behind his back, about the middle of the Cholla field he jumped off his horse and started running full tilt thru the cactus that was about 5' high with his head thrown back....he had so much cactus in him he looked like one of the cactus himself...old Tom thought of shooting him, and then changed his mind, if he didn't want to go to Yuma that bad...he's just let him go...
The local Hualapai Indians have a cure for the thorns, which have hooks in the end and a bit of poison and the hooks come out VERY hard...but he took up with them and survived.. on another trip about a year later...the Ranger saw this guy sitting on a porch of an stage stop whittling, he just grinned and kept on riding...he said if he lived after all that, he'd be a "Good Boy" for a long time...and he was!
Ok...enough...that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :D

I mentioned gold in the previous post...I ran across this a few ago...thought you might enjoy a look see...here is just shy of 6 troy oz. Some from up in the Meadview area, some from south of Quartzsite and some from an area south of Prescott...some from the gold country just out off of HWY 49 in Calif w/ a metal detector, drywasher and a bit of sluice work...a lot of fun...the only hobby I know of that can pay for it's self darn near every time you go out if you go at it correctly in the right places....
