Well, - it seemed to work.
I tried copying two ways. The first way was directly on the glass. The second way, I taped the inlay to some green paper and then copied onto clear mailing labels.
Copying on the green paper gave a better image, but you couldn't see well to place it.
I've attached images of both types of copies.

I used a dark one for testing purposes. It was easy to route right up to the edge. I had to clean the corners with a small chip carving chisel. The final image is with the inlay inserted about 1/2 way. I had to route the E twice because I didn't go up to the edge completely the first time.

Cool! I'm glad it worked! I suppose if the object you photocopy is bigger there is more chance for distortion. For the small inlays we do, it seems like it won't be a problem. Good stuff!

I've tried this twice and both times the fit was on the too tight side of perfect.
Next time I'm going to copy at 101% and 102% and see if it helps.

That's better than it being too loose! At least now you know there is room to fudge a bit!

This is my first attempt at using the technique on a real job. I had to put it in a vise and press it in

WOW!!! That is a tight inlay!! On light wood, you can't do any better! I know how I will be doing my inlays from now on!
