pickup for a classical guitar
Re: pickup for a classical guitar
I am going to use a Fishman Presys+ with sonocore pickup on my personal nylon string "cross-over" I believe its important to have some EQ right on the instrument, otherwise one of the K&K knock offs will work fine for direct to amp. A guy from Michigan (my home state) sells a nice assortment of this type of pick up on Ebay -- gets very good reviews -- much less costly than K&K. The electronics are all pretty noise free these days, including Artec which offers some nice stuff for little money. Of course the next step is a system that does modeling more bucks $$ but fun.

Re: pickup for a classical guitar
I've played a couple of company parties and such, and I over-geared: I was of course trying for the faithful reproduction of 'the sound of my guitar only louder' when really, all they wanted was a little background music, and as the party went on that faithful reproduction meant less and less. I would now go with the simplest setup I could that gives a pleasant enough sound. For me, that is a little mic that clips on the soundhole, straight to a mic in on the amp. An onboard eq is good as well.
A pic from the net of the one I use.
Here's a review:http://youtu.be/uG5gVUG2c0o (I think you can get these for $150. Not cheap, but it is one pickup that you can use on any acoustic instrument you've got!)

Re: pickup for a classical guitar
Thanks guys for the birthday wishes. Really new to this forum but I'm beginning to like it very much. Just finished the re-build on the old Kay Parlor guitar. The binding and perfling shiny as all get out. Giving the finish a week to set up good before I give it to the little girl. Her name is Mackenzie btw. She still doesn't know about it, waiting to surprise her. I hope she sticks with it but I guess that will be my job to make her lessons fun and something to look forward too. Pretty new at teaching, But I taught my brother he is now a very accomplished guitarist. I just started playing with him, teaching him new chords as we went. Introduced him to advanced chording positions. Barre Chords right off the bat. Minor's same thing. He never knew that he was learning things that took me thirty years to figure out.
