Re: Preston Thompson Size #2
Who built it? Preston Thompson? Is he the guy playing it? It is a nice sounding guitar. I want to build a small guitar for my kids and well...mostly for me. That is a nice sounding guitar. I like the shape too.

Re: Preston Thompson Size #2
Hi Guys - Thanks Ken for posting the videos! That is a little size 2 (Martin) shaped body. 12 fret Spanish Cedar neck, Western Red Cedar "sinker" top and figured Mahogany back and sides. I sent Ken a tracing from my 1892 Martin 2-27 that he has made patterns and the molds from. This one is a steel string version much like the 2-17 that Martin made from 1922 to 1938. The 2-17 also had a Mahogany top which was the original intent on this guitar but the customer changed it to Cedar. This little instrument has enormous volume for its size and the Cedar top gave it a very warm responsive tone.
We are currently making two more, one a custom version for a customer with a "ghost figured sinker Mahogany" top and sides and a straight grained sinker Mahogany back. The other is more true to the 2-17 models. All Mahogany body, Spanish Cedar neck and simple appointments. Definitely fun and endearing little guitars. You can't put them down! Visit www.pkthompsonguitars.com for more info. Thanks.

Re: Preston Thompson Size #2
Nice. I thought it looked and sounded like cedar top. What's the scale length?
Re: Preston Thompson Size #2
Preston mentioned that this one has a 24.9 scale -- however Martin used a long scale 25.4.

Re: Preston Thompson Size #2
Wow very nice! I love the sound and the shape. Thanks for posting the info Ken and Preston. Well this will be the one I will build with this sinker cedar top, just need to pick the back/side wood now. Looks like a fun project and a great little guitar. Thanks Guys, Jack.
