What do you plan to do with a moisture meter?

Always buy your material from a reputable seller, one that knows what is being sold (should be about 7%-10%) -- I believe changing the moisture content of wood that has already been kiln dried is a bit of a science if it can be done at all. It is much more important to have the shop at an RH of about 45%, that and furniture/instrument grade lumber will get you going in the right direction.

I have no idea where the KMG meter is stored in the shop – that's how much we use it!!

No I don't own it. It was featured in an Eagle America printed catalog that came to my house yesterday. Pinless meters look more useful to me in general, but they all used pins once upon a time, and $50 seemed attractive. However, $30 seems too cheap. By that, I mean, basic durability and accuracy begins to look doubtful if it can be sold that cheaply. The reviews on Amazon are sure mixed.

Amazon has become the Walmart of the internet.

Yes they are both the same - same meter, same piece of wood under assessment.
