ash wood

I was splitting some ash for firewood today and was admiring how nice and straight the grain is and how it splits so easy. One would think this would be great for a back and side set. But I don't see any one using or selling it. It seems it would be easy to work also. Any one use this wood before?

I have not used it, but have read some encouraging things about it - for backs and sides. I'm all for the alternative woods unless big red flags are posted all over the net...

I have a quilted ash body that I have put off to the side for awhile. Beautiful wood, can't wait to hear how it sounds.

Much like Oak (actually passed off as that even today) I know Oak both Red and White sound nice. Just make sure it is dried to about 7%.

About 15yrs ago I had a Martin made with Ash back/sides. I have to say
the tone was just okay for me. I ended up selling it. Again just my take
but as a builder now I have no desire to use Ash.
