Sorry George. I'm here for you now, man :-)

Anyway, what I did was to contact TheBestThings.com, and ask the guy there to look around his storage for an excellent set of paring chisels, users, for a good price. He fixed me up with some very old (early 1800's) chisels from England back when they really produced good steel tools. They sharpen AND hold an edge like you would not believe. Shiny and new? - nope. Excellent tools? Yep. I also got from him an old Preston spokeshave that cuts like it's going through butter. And the prices were really good. The guy knows his stuff.

Hi George,

As you asked about chisels and planes, I use some very old chisels that originally were used by my great great grandfather in the late 1800's. Old steel = sharp edges. I also use a couple pf small bock planes (old stanley etc) but I recently combined one of my newer chisels into a small block plane that I made. This way I was abel to control the angle (25°) and I will make a couple more blocks to put the chisel into. This uses my 1" chisel. As long as it is sharp, it works brilliantly for shaping braces etc.
