I have never glued one in. A dab of titebond should be enough, you want to be able to easily remove it. I consider it a consumable. I also shape it off of the guitar as I am working with a finished neck at the point I make the nut.

I agree with John, a dab of Titebond or LMI White will work. Then if you need to remove it, you just put a piece of wood next to it and tap the wood lightly with a hammer and the nut will come off.
I have only done 3 so far, but I don't put the nut on until it's ready to be strung up. If you do wait until then, be sure to mask off the headstock and the first fret so that you don't put any file marks on them. I ruined my first headstock because of that. Use cardboard or something sturdy.
Truth be known, I've had a nut in the first guitar without anything holding it. Once I cinch up a string or two, it won't move without being really jarred. I have it glued now, but for a time it wasn't.
Good luck, nice build going here.

Thanks guys, mine needs glueing because I have no HS veneer, therefore, no slot for it to sit in, just butting up against the FB. Thanks for kind and encouraging words, I'm going to be so proud when I (fingers crossed) get to string it up and have a play!

Am waiting for a bit of scrap walnut to arrive to practice spraying and filling on.

I got a proper digital caliper and am now measuring everything i can get my hands on. My top is 3.2mm at the soundhole, from what i've read this seems still a bit thick for a small guitar, the bracing is moderately light and i've thinned the edges but it does seem very stiff if i try to flex it at all with my hands. Should i scrape/ sand it further or just leave it be?

Scrape down your white trim ring you installed I bet its too thick -- having personally tested that top I'd say the top thickness is just fine. Of course you can do as you please. Sanding the perimeter is a good idea, I have to get off my butt and document the controlled process for doing that sanding operation properly.
