Usernames -- ALERT! There's more

Post by ken cierp » Mon Jul 22, 2013 4:21 pm

This is the email that is now sent to those who apply for registration to our forum if they do not comply with the basic requirement of at least using their real first name as part of their username. See the first topic heading.

As indicated in the first forum topic line, we have slightly shifted our registration policy, having found that it is far more likely that handles or coded, cutsie, cryptic, business and commercial names are associated with spammers (not fun for the members or administers), so like many other forums we now require community friendly user names. But unlike those other forums we do not require both first and last names, we suggest something using your actual first name similar to: Glen S, Bill Memphis, Bob Jones, Betty, Chris, etc. adding correct spaces tends to provide a name that makes immediate sense to others -- please re-register with a user name that follows these guidelines

Thank you in advance for understanding, we look forward to having you join and sharing your guitar construction interests

I am now requesting that current members make adjustments in their username to also comply -- this is not meant to offend anyone and is not manditory at this point in time -- as many of you know the two most popular guitar/musical instrument making forums require use of actual first and last names. You guys and gals are fabulous and deserve instant recognition anyway.

Usernames -- ALERT!

When I try to change my username by re-registering, I am asked for a new email address also? Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

You don't reregister
Go to your user control panel to the account setting

Ken, how about an alternative? Require new people to register using a real name and then allowing a change to a "nom de plume"? I hate people being able to track me using my real name, although I will provide it to anyone who asks. That's why I use a nom de plumes on various forums. Obviously you have every right to make whatever rules you deem necessary and I respect that.

Dennis you have your real name in your signature on every one of your posts now. I've noted that the same concerns were initially brought up at MIMF and OLF both adminstors indicate that the tracking of indiviuals via a phpbb is a non-issue.

BTW did you get the kit yet?
