Neck reset

Post by Harold in Tn » Mon Jul 22, 2013 10:36 am

How many times can the neck be reset by flossing the cheeks before the angle becomes too much and creates a hump at the body joint??

Totally a math issue how much is removed each reset? The saddle height and even the bridge height can also be used to improve playability without messing with the neck. Too much humidity can also bubble the sound-board making it appear that the neck needs reset. Plus there is no reason to leave a hump -- just shim under the finger-board extension to maintain the required straight line -- this is what Taylor has built into their design.

You will have to ask the wise old owl. He was the only one who knew how many licks to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie roll pop. He will probably know this as well.

I believe that you can do it a lot. If the fret board extension develops a dip, you can use a thin wedge to shim it up to maintain a straight line. It should not develop a hump since you are tipping the rest of the neck away from the extension during a reset.

Edit: Ken answered while I was searching for a pic of the Tootsie roll owl. Glad we agree about the shim.
