Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
Unfortunately unlike the "game of horse shoes" close does not count. But the good news is that you used the Mega Mold properly and your first suggested course of action is spot on --- you need to very carefully sand the neck heel on both checks on a very very slight angle removing material at the bottom tappered to zero at the top. Make sure you prepare the neck heel as shown here before you proceed. http://www.kennethmichaelguitars.com/ne ... embly.html

Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
Thanks ken, thats a relief.
Speaking of relief--I understand that nothing outside the lines should be touched and the area marked with Xs should be carefully trimmed inwards ? Is that correct ?
So, can the edges be planed or chiseled at any stage to allow the neck tilt a little or is it ONLY the heel area that gets trimmed fully
Sorry for all the questions but i need to get my head around this for once and for all.
I have read All of what you sent and just trying to understand it all now
Thanks again for your assistance

Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
Follow the instructions on the page and do things in the order indicated and you will be fine. Thousands of guitars have been built using the KMG manual. If you make assumptions, set your own precedence, pick and choose what you feel like doing, follow mixed methods and use well meaning but ill advised help from other foums and you will surely have a chance of making a mess. Understand the goals before you proceed. Seems to me, that taking stuff out of context is why are having problems getting your head around a required process.
Your question is explained in detail here:

I agree with the old adage
"too many chefs spoil the broth"
Assuming that nothing else has been done, this neck is 15 minutes away from being correctly set.

Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
Got it all lined up -eventually-- and just about to glue on fretboard to neck. I need to backfill the enlarged holes on the bolt on neck as I had to enlarge them slightly and should be on my way again.
Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
I have one of your bridge setting jigs ken and just wondering if i can use it to set the neck on this parlor--24.9 scale
I seem to remember the one i got from you was 25.3 scale--would that be correct-- so is there any chance it could also be used for different scales or is there a new one required for each one ?
many Thanks
Rusty

Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
The scale length is engrave on the alignment template. LMII 24.9 is not the same as Martin's 24.9 (24.82)
Every scale length requires a specific template which aligns with the frets. Contact KMG for pricing of additional templates.

Re: Rusty's PL 29 Antes Parlor
No, I see that now ken and the one I have would not work for this scale.
I will order the proper one for 24.9 at a later stage but I need to get this bridge set now and it would take too long to wait for it to arrive so from what I can gather if I measure double the distance between the nut and 12th and then add .15 I should be ok. That would be from the nut down to the centre of the saddle slot between the d and g string ?
Does that sound correct to you ? If not please advise.
I need some bits and bobs anyway so will order it all together when I start my next project--thinking about a cutaway already so that should be fun.
Thanks
