FYI -- to help trick the eye I always surround any inlay on light wood with a thin black line or at least a dark line of purfling. This hides any tiny flaws in the channel and subsequent glue line irregularities.

The black line I used on my abalone purfling was only .010" and it makes a huge difference on how the shell stands out against the top.

And as Ken said, it helps to make the fit look better too.

I used the dremel to take the shell out, made
the channel wider and deeper and the pieces
fit in nicely. Pics to follow........

Looks real nice. No purfling lines around the shell?

Thanks Kevin....

This guitar (my first build) is for my fiance. I offered to do more
with the rosette but she wanted something very simple; so there
you go.....:)

Most often simple is more elegant. Good for her. It looks great.
