Which planes for brace tapering and scalloping?

+1 on the Boone plane, been using it for years.


Also this little guy, that looks like a toy, is pretty amazing and works good on the braces and many other things.

I also use a small $5.99 block plane from Harbor Freight; when sharpened, it works as good as anything.

Picked up some "F" clamps at HF yesterday and saw their little brass planes -- Three sizes in a pack" --- $12 -- I agree with Dave if you get them shape they'll work OK. I bet with a little thought one could re-shape the shoe and make a contoured version.

I've seen those at HF before and thought about getting them....how bad could they be? And with a little help...
Next time I'm there I'll use the 20% coupon and get em, never can have too many planes.

HF has 25% coupons out now for July 4th. I'm getting these planes too. They're being sold on eBay for twice the price of HF.

those of you who make your own planes, where do you get the blades? I see the Ibex site has them for $18 sharp. but Pilgrims's $46 seems very reasonable for an Ibex plane.

For the planes I'm making, I use chisels for the irons, and I get them from HF.

Re: the ibex finger planes. Are the 8mm and 10mm both suitable? And for brace shaping, is the convex a better choice than flat, or vice-versa?
