What is your method of determining a saddle slot depth?

The Martin belly bridge goes down about .24" deep and they average .36" thick in the center --- Gibson bridges go down about .18" and they average .25 at the center. So it varies. You don't want the saddle tipping toward the nut. And you don't want the slot so deep as to allow the front portion to crack and peel off.

I go down so I'm 1/8" off the bottom. For a approx. 3/8" bridge this comes out pretty good for me
