Somewhere recently I read of luthiers who take about .005 off the first fret on the board, then when they fret for the F chord it is more in tune. Supposed to make the rest of the guitar (after the open fret) more in tune.
Anyone have ideas either way?

I've comunicated with John Grevens regarding nut compensation -- while he does not bother even on his very expensive custom instruments (many thousands $$) he did mention that Mike Doolin does have articles on the subject that are very compelling.
