In my opinion it does not make any sense to compromise fine inlay work by using an up spiral end mills or straight cut bits. Down Spiral bits are designed to push the edges of the cut down into the pocket and create a clean fuzz free edge. Here's where KMG purchase our inlay bits --- very reasonably priced and long lasting!

The work horse bit in our operation is the long carbide 1/4" straight, we purchase those from BAM Carbide #ST0002 -- they also have a wide assortment of down spiral bits and also neat combo bits (US/DS) for Melamine and plastic laminates.

Re: Production quality router bits used by KMG
I bought a bunch of their bits on your recommendation Ken. While I have not gotten around to using them yet, I have to say they were very fast with shipping and the bits look like very good quality. I hope to use them soon for some rosettes for two guitars I am working on and so I can do a pictorial of how I make solid wood rosettes.
P.S. The bits are 5 packs for the price listed. I found single bits for nearly the same price when I was looking online. Good value!
