One of the nicest woods that I've worked with is Red Gum. It bends better than any wood that I've used, finishes beautifully and sounds great, it's a total sleeper for a Tonewood.

Hi Gary, If you are shooting lacquer, you can spray a couple coats of clear sealer down on the whole body, let it dry and scuff sand to remove any little bumps. Any little tits will show when you spray a toner if you don't get the top smooth. By spraying the clear sealer down first it makes it a lot...

Try running your maple a second time at the same setting, most of the burning should be eliminated. I've used this method on several flame and quilted maple sets and it worked for me. I'm running it thru a 80 to 120 grit double drum sander, coarser grits leave deep grooves which are hard to remove.

I've bent quite a few sets of Sapele and have found that I get my best results if I lightly spritz the wood and sandwich the side between damp Kraft paper. This is placed in a foil envelope and bent on a Fox style bender. I start the bending at about 325 degrees and do two heat cycles and let the si...
