One of the nicest woods that I've worked with is Red Gum. It bends better than any wood that I've used, finishes beautifully and sounds great, it's a total sleeper for a Tonewood.

Hi Gary, If you are shooting lacquer, you can spray a couple coats of clear sealer down on the whole body, let it dry and scuff sand to remove any little bumps. Try running your maple a second time at the same setting, most of the burning should be eliminated. I've used this method on several flame and quilted maple sets and it worked for me. I'm running it thru a 80 to 120 grit double drum sander, coarser grits leave deep grooves which are hard to remove.

I just ordered a set just to see what all the fuss is about, should be here next week. I'll let the forum know what I think of the top.
