I did an inlay for my sister that could have been a nightmare, but took the easy route. The guitar was going to be black, with a pearl necklace style inlay, meaning the side closer to the bridge was considerably larger than the side closer to the neck, think one circle inside another, offset towards...

I agree....I had some great thoughts about it, but was less than scientific about my approach. As I mentioned, I tried too many thingso n the same instrument, and am not clear what might have been a positive and what wasn't. Will take a few more attempts, simplifying what will depart from the norm.

I had a similar thought and have built a couple guitars to test the theory. 2 have actually been completed this way, but were not my best efforts. What a great idea! I love that look! I have a couple of wild zebra sets waiting to be turned into something.....been more than 2 years since I built anything but a cutting board. Keep it going, beautiful looking guitar.

I had the same imprinting happen to a guitar I was working on, had to strip and refinish the back. That matting has a plasticizer in it that keeps it soft and sticky, and will affect finishes.
