Re: Archtop guitar is finally done

Hey, Kevin, this thing looks totally splendid. No need to apologize about not wanting to build another. I've had Benedetto's book for maybe 30 years, bought it when I lived in Texas and I've been out of there 21 years now. They're exquisite things, as is yours. I've a friend up at Interlochen who bu...

Exquisite bindings n purflings!

I drool every time I see photos of your shop or Parchem's. Like your fixture for routing the rabbets.

It's ALIVE!! (yet again)

01/10/24 Yet again, against excellent advice from a guy whose expertise I respect, I decided to use Titebond. I did take Kevin's advice and bent the binding and purfling separately. I agree .180” wide is too thick to get accurate radii from. My logic was: 1) I've got Titebond on hand and for most of...

Re: Numero Nueve

01/08/24 Ah, Kevin, timely advise. Promptly broke the teak purfling – which I was mindful might happen. I planed the combined purfling/binding strips down to .180” wide this pm with my cobbled up binding planer. This is an old Harbor Fgt. Laminate trimmer with the bit depth adjustment broken. The bi...

Re: Numero Nueve

12/30/23 Attempted fix for #9 Broken edges reglued. Along with the break itself, I reglued the braces from the large piece only as far as the backing strips in the narrow piece for where the maple strip divides the back (3-pc back). The braces are of course radiused and I wanted to just pressure the...

Re: Numero Nueve

12/28/23 Well, those are pretty bleak assessments from two guys whose expertise I highly respect. Not what I wanted to hear but kind of what I expected. There are some more of you out there yet, feel free to chime in too. I'll tinker with it a while yet. Nor do I really understand how repairing brok...

Number 9 Undone: ADVICE REQUESTED 12/25/23 Unfortunately #9, along with #6, was at a local guitar store without humidification for sale last winter, and the back cracked badly. Yeah, you'd think an Art School boy would know enough to inquire about humidification but he assumed that all stringed inst...
