Splitted fretboard

Post by Geocoucou79 » Thu Feb 08, 2024 7:18 pm

Hi,

I made another blunder… The soundhole end of my fretboard splitted while hammering the frets in… I fixed it the best I could with CA glue but no need to say I’m now scared of hammering it some more 😬! I would rather use a fret press but I don’t have any.

Any advice?

It's possible your fret tangs are bottoming out so make sure they are deep enough. Looks like you may have some glue in the end of some slots there.
Your CA fix on the crack should come out fine.
Ebony is very forgiving for hiding these things. If need be work some ebony sawdust in with the CA for a seamless fix.

Probably you did not support the bottom right while hammering. Looks like that.
If you going to press, the same issue is valid. Support the bottom site adequate.
Just a thought.
Good luck
