String buzzing

Post by Geocoucou79 » Sat Apr 27, 2024 9:42 am

Hi guys,

I suddenly have a buzzing sound on my dreadnought’s G string. It happens when played loud only and the other strings are fine. My guess would be that the nut slot is too deep but then why did it happen suddenly? Any thoughts?

Changes in Humidity can cause it. Buzzes are sometimes hard to fine. You can check the setup to see if it is too low. I fret the 3rd fret there should be a bit of a gap at the first fret. I set up the nut that way. I file until when fretting the 3rd fret and tapping the string between the first and second fret I should hear a ping. The eyes help here as well.

Geo,
Where does it buzz? On the open string or fretted a certain fret?

The open string buzzes, only this string.

Then you got the nut cut too deep or the first fret too high.
If you push the string down at the second fret, you should have a tiny space between the string and the first fret. If not, your cut in the nut is too deep. Fill it with some bone dust and CA glue. Then cut the slot again.

Aaaah right that makes sense. I’ll give that a try. Thanks Herman!
