Soundhole & Rosette Routing Jig

Post by Hans Mattes » Tue Feb 07, 2017 8:46 pm

I'm preparing to rout the rosette channel in the top for my second build (the first build having been a Kenneth Michael Success Kit -- which was a delight), so I considered the StewMac Soundhole & Rosette Routing Jig. Very nice, but $82 seemed both expensive and out of keeping with the clever Kenneth Michael techniques. So I looked at the circle cutting attachment that came with my Dremel and realized that I was already most of the way there. A small metal angle, three nuts, a 5" machine screw, and a bit of shop time resulted in a usable, and very inexpensive, alternative.

Very nice, isn't creating tools and jigs fun? It is one of the things that I really love about building guitars.

Great idea. I used that circle cutter to do my rosette and sound hole cutting until I made this one using the Stewmac holder for the dremel.
Nice to have some controllable adjustment when doing the channels.
