K&K Pure Mini

Post by Herman » Tue Feb 03, 2015 3:21 pm

As you know, my latest Jumbo got the K&K pickup.
Installation is very easy. The three pickups are glued under the saddle area. The jack has the usual dimensions.
Well how does it sound?: I invited some friends and we made a comparison between this pickup and the one in my other jumbo. A L.R.Baggs Active Element, which has an undersaddle piezostrip and an active output. All agreed that the K&K is more a reflection of the natural sound of the guitar. My friends favor the K&K over the Baggs. For my taste it is a bit on the dark and woody side. (I like power). But for those who dislike the "piezo-attack-click" it is a great pickup for the money.

Soundclips over the net don't tell a true sound, but they are fun to listen to.
So I made this one. The new owner Bert will make us a proper one. But that is for later.

At first you hear the natural sound. Just a mike 3 feet away from me. After 17,5 seconds you hear the onboard K&K pure mini over my AER amp with a touch of resonance. Made in 10 minutes. So no sophistication, no processing.

My favorite pickup and IMO the most natural sounding you can buy.
I've "Ben-Had" again!

I agree that this type of pick up is very natural sounding. Don't for get the knock version made and sold by Jesse at JJB Electronics. $50. I used 4 of these all made the guitar sound great.

Yes, Jesse wired one up for me with a gold plated jack I sent to him. Very easy to deal with.

I looked them up and they ship over the world for 6.50 dollar. For that I even cannot drive into town and park my car.

Herman, you certainly are getting a good result with the K&K. It does not sound amplified at all in the clip.
