Hot tub redwood guitar

The top is redwood salvaged from a california hot tub. Back, sides, neck, back braces, lining, and blocks are mahogany. Top braces are recycled QS sitka crate wood, tortoise binding, maple headplate, ebony button schallers, ebony board and bridge, and a Nitro finish.

Great project and resulting guitar! How was it using the router plane to take the finish off under the bridge? I been going back and forth masking or not masking before spraying. I am leaning toward not masking. I always end up having to clean the tape edge anyway and that is the hardest part of removing the finish.

Thanks, the router plane worked very well to remove the finish. I have taped before, but prefer to remove the finish. I used to use a razor blade as a scraper but this router plane (it's the veritas mini router plane) is so sharp and the depth adjustment is so accurate I can't see myself using anything besides this.

How does the guitar sound now that you have the finish on it? Has it changed much?

Thanks Tony. This little router plane is way more useful than one might think. I used it for notching kerfing to accept braces, routing rosette channels, and a bunch of other stuff as well as for the bridge finish. While your ordering that from lee valley you might want to consider picking up a few other veritable planes :D
