Ebony vs. rosewood

Post by Paul C » Wed Jan 28, 2015 7:38 pm

Do you guys notice any difference in ebony and rosewood? I have a Taylor with a ebony fb . I seems like it sorta mutes the sound a bit but I like that. And the over all sound is great of that guitar. Rosewood seems to more bright sounding in all my others including the ones I built. I just wonder if double the price is worth it especially when this guitar is not sold yet.

Actually the Ebony fingerboard is heavier which technically will add mass which nullifies some vibration (tuning fork effect) thats tend to dissipate less energy --- so it improves at least sustain, maybe volume.

And an Ebony bridge is heavier than Rosewood --- So RW is the better choice for a responsive sound board.
