a 1/32" isn't much, you could do this on the back for sure. On the top too like Ken said might get some advantage to the top if your so inclined but filling the space that way should work also.

I did finish the back with shims. It took some time for sure. Next time I will triple check the cut before moving on. Ken your idea sounds good to!.

Great, hope the finished product comes out okay. Post a pic when you have the purfs and binding glued in and scraped down

I did that once more than a 32nd but less than the top. but only on part of the guitar. I glued in an extra binding that I had bent for the shape. I got it nearly level to the top and then re-routed the channel.
