Alternative nlay materials - wood or brass inlay

Post by Daniel P » Fri Feb 07, 2014 12:15 pm

I'm considering cutting my own wood or brass inlay for my fretboard as I've got some really nice thin figured myrtle that would contrast nicely with an ebony fretboard. I've always like the look of walnut and brass so that is also in consideration.

Any of you fans of wood inlay for the fretboard? Any words of wisdom as I consider this?
Specifically I'm wondering if there is concern about the inlay wearing faster than an ebony fretboard, as it seems that most often a harder material is use.

Brass/silver/gold -- fine. Lighter color wood will soon get stained from the natural oil on your fingers.
