The bridges I made in the past, pin bridges and pinless ones, are all in good shape. The only two that lifted were those who did not fit perfectly to the top's dome in the first place. (Too flat for the dome and pressed in place during glueing.) So my advise is: get that fitting right, first thing. ...

Then you got the nut cut too deep or the first fret too high.
If you push the string down at the second fret, you should have a tiny space between the string and the first fret. If not, your cut in the nut is too deep. Fill it with some bone dust and CA glue. Then cut the slot again.

Excellent plan Geo

A maccaferri gypsy guitar has a 2 mm thick top. But is has a massive bracing below.

Second that. It can be used for a very small guitar or a Maccaferri Gypsy one.
Or use it as a resource for central strips cutted cross grain.
